IN-SITU CONTAMINANT REMEDIATION OPTIONS
- Petroleum hydrocarbons; gasoline, diesel, motor oil, BTEX, MTBE, TBA and other compounds: treat with aerobic enhanced bioremediation, chemical oxidation (ozone), or hydrogen peroxide, Fenton's chemistry.
- Chlorinated Solvents; PCE, TCE, DCE: Treat with anaerobic enhanced bioremediation or chemical oxidation or hydrogen peroxide, Fenton's chemistry.
- Nitrates and Perchlorate: Treat with anaerobic enhanced bioremediation.
- Heavy Metals: Solubility and mobility of heavy metals (chromium, lead, cadmium, arsenic, etc.) is pH sensitive. Besides pH adjustment, metals stabilization may involve adding a reductant or oxidizer, depending on the metal.
OVERVIEW OF IN-SITU SOIL
AND WATER TREATMENT:
Environmental
Bio-Systems specializes in soil, groundwater and process water treatment
assessment and remedial technologies. Some applications for soil
and groundwater contamination are in -situ (in place) such as chemical
oxidation, enhanced bioremediation, and metals stabilization. Above
ground applications also relate to groundwater treatment, process
wastewater minimization, treatment, and resource recycling.
Numerous in-situ technologies
have been developed over the past few years. Delivery is the key
issue for in-situ remediation, whether it is the delivery of the
oxidants for chemical oxidations, the reductants for metals stabilization
or nutrients and electron donors for enhanced bioremediation. Generally,
in-situ remediation costs less than conventional methods: excavation
and off-site disposal for soil, and pump and treat for groundwater.
Nonetheless, in-situ projects do require more planning and scientific
skill to implement than conventional methods.
Environmental Bio-Systems can make arrangements for "wait and pay" status (90-120 days) from State Underground Storage Tank Funds.
SELECTED IN-SITU REMEDIATION DELIVERY METHODS:
- Wells, well-points, probe
points, trenches: liquids and gases
- Grout pumps: solids and slurries
- Funnel and Gate, trenches:
solids ( Primarily emplaced during
construction phase or recharge phase)
INDUSTRIES SERVED:
- Petroleum, Transportation,
Legal, Banking, Medical, Fire/Flood Restoration, Commercial
- Water, Food Processing, Marine,
Military, Golf Course, Forest
Products, Chemical
- Manufacturing, Industrial,
and Commercial
COLD MIXED ASPHALT (CMA) FOR METALS, HYDROCARBONS AND SOLVENTS:
CMA is perfect method for recycling for mine tailings and wastes, refinery wastes and PCB and other oily sludges. The CMA process recycles these wastes into asphalt for parking lots, bike paths and hiking trails.
